Somerset council have installed CCTV cameras at the site of roadworks after the traffic lights were 'tampered with'.
Motorists in Congresbury faced lengthy rush hour delays over the last two nights as they drove through the A370 High Street in the town. It is one of the main routes between Weston-super-Mare, Somerset and Bristol. Workers are making £250,000 worth of changes to the pavements along the street, upgrading manhole covers and the traffic lights, as well as resurfacing the road.
Cllr Elfan Ap Rees, North Somerset Council's deputy leader and Executive Member for Highways, said: "As a result of this tampering we have installed some CCTV cameras in the area. "We said we wanted to keep disruption to a minimum and asked road users to be patient while we carry out the work but we can't legislate for irresponsible people interfering with the traffic light equipment."
