As the TV chef spends increasingly more time out of kitchen in his many restaurants, Jamie Oliver has turned to CCTV cameras to keep an eye on his chefs and inspect each plate that leaves the kitchen.
Thought to be a first, he has installed CCTV cameras in all his restaurants nationwide, including his chain 'Jamie's Italian'.
The CCTV cameras have the ability to zoom in on each dish created, allowing him to monitor chefs who are not meeting his strict quality standards.
Jamie, 36, said: “I have excellent chefs in all of my kitchens. And this use of CCTV is a very efficient way of maintaining quality.”
Pictures are sent back live to a central DVR (digital video recorder) which Jamie can view at the click of a mouse wherever he is in the world. Footage is also regularly watched by Jamie’s team of executive chefs at his London HQ. They conduct random quality checks on his behalf.
Likened to the TV show 'Big Brother', the chefs are now under scrutiny throughout their shifts and every movement and creation is captured on HD (high definition) CCTV cameras.
Is this a step to far for the work place?
